Containerized Modular RO Seawater Desalination System Technology and Applications
1. System Overview
Zhejiang Chimey Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. offers a containerized modular RO seawater desalination system designed for a wide range of applications, including ships, islands, offshore platforms, and other marine environments. The system meets diverse freshwater supply needs for island communities, engineering projects, and offshore operations.
Featuring a modular and intelligent design, the system integrates the seawater intake unit, pre-treatment unit, RO unit, ultrafiltration unit, and electrical control system within a standard container. This enables easy transportation, rapid deployment, and flexible installation, making it highly adaptable to complex site conditions.
The process adopts a two-stage reverse osmosis (RO) technology, where raw seawater is pressurized and treated through RO membranes to produce drinking-quality water. The system can stably treat seawater with TDS ≤ 35,000 mg/L, operate under feed water temperatures of 4–35°C, and deliver product water with TDS ≤ 150–500 mg/L, meeting the national requirements of the “Standards for Drinking Water Quality” (GB 5749-2022).
With the ability to adapt process configurations based on varying seawater conditions, the system ensures consistent production of water that meets drinking water standards, even under complex marine environments.

Key Features
• Energy-Efficient Operation
Equipped with an integrated high-pressure pump and energy recovery device, the system enables cyclic conversion of pressure energy → mechanical energy → pressure energy, recovering up to 55% of brine pressure energy and reducing high-pressure pump energy consumption by up to 50%, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.
• Easy Operation & Maintenance
The integrated, compact design simplifies the treatment process and reduces piping and valve requirements, minimizing footprint. Combined with a water-lubricated system, only a single set of core components requires maintenance, significantly lowering operational costs and complexity, ideal for remote island environments.
• Intelligent & Automated Control
Featuring an automated control system, remote monitoring, and IoT-based data acquisition, the system enables real-time performance monitoring and precise data collection. Fully automated operation reduces manual intervention and ensures high reliability and operational stability.
2. Application Case
To address the severe freshwater shortage on Fodu Island (Zhoushan) and the surge in water demand from both local residents and the Phase II construction of the Liuheng Highway Bridge, Chimey deployed the CM-JZXS-FST containerized modular RO seawater desalination system, consisting of two units with a capacity of 250 m³/day each, operating in parallel.
Since commissioning, the system has demonstrated stable and reliable performance, effectively meeting the daily water needs of nearly 3,000 residents as well as supporting large-scale construction activities. The project successfully resolved the island’s freshwater supply challenges and provides a replicable solution for similar remote island applications.
